About Myself:
I am the co-author, with Lisa Himmel, of "HUNGRY: A Mother and Daughter Fight Anorexia." During my tenure as restaurant critic of the San Jose Mercury News, Lisa developed anorexia and bulimia. She and I wrote an article for the paper, which I left in 2005 to work on the book. HUNGRY connects eating disorders to a food-obsessed culture in a very personal way. I am a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and I attended the Graduate School of Journalism. I have received awards for news, food, and feature writing, including the James Beard Award. My work has appeared in publications including USA Today and the Washington Post. I live in Palo Alto, California, with my husband, Ned.
